I first worked for Peter Alexander on his 1950′s styled mothers day catalog last year. This was a fabulous project that we shot in my house. I still get people contacting me from this series of images and recognizing my styling from them.

Since then i have been lucky enough to work with Peter and The Paper Stone Scissors team on a variety of shoots, calenders, online catalogs and product shots.

I love the tone, innocence and playful energy of the products and it is always a pleasure to be involved with these shoots.

For a Pittance – Photo exhibition at The Museum of Sydney

There is currently a photo of me in a exhibition at the Museum of Sydney. It is a photographic exploration of descendants of Australia’s early convicts.
I worked with the wonderful photographer Mine Konacki a few years ago whilst I was doing some promotional work for Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority. We had spoken then about my convict ancestry on my mothers side of the family as my family tree has a strong connection with the Rocks Area, Playfair street being names after one of my relatives.

As someone who loves and appreciates days gone by it was fascinating to take a step so far back into my own family history. I became aware of my convict heritage during the 1988 Bicentenary as there was lots of focus on convicts and Australia’s past. My mother was really passionate about our researching our family tree and connecting the dots that created our families journey.

In Mine’s own words about the exhibition “As a photographer, what interested me was the impact that the theft of objects—most of a relatively small value—could have on people’s lives. As a result, the photographs depict the descendants with a representation of the item that their ancestors had stolen; with the items representing a link between the ancestor and descendant.”

Such a simple theft brought William Roberts my ancestor to Australia. It makes you stop and think about all of those small decisions, moments, happenings and where they lead you.

I loved working with Mine and am so thrilled that the collection of images that she was so passionate about creating is on display in such a fabulous location.

Retrospec’d Styling 2012

I love working with the girls from Retrospec’d. Last year I did another styling job with them for their new collection of divine dresses. I love the colours , prints and their feminine designs.

They wanted something fun and fresh , not too many props and an innocent girlish collection of photos.

For this shoot i did the casting , styling , art direction , prop styling and also all of the hair styling for the models. Needless to say it was an incredibly busy day and one where I definitely wished i had more hands. The wonderful Louise Whelan took the photos and Emily Sarks and Marija Milisavljevic did the make up. Marie Claire Two for the Road Fashion Story

Towards the end of last year I had the great privilege of working with the wonderfully talented photographer Corrie Bond on another Marie Claire fashion story.

The shoot was a road trip tale of two girls looking for adventure. Styled by the fabulous Kate Harrowsmith it featured some truly beautiful , tailored , quirky , sophisticated and fun fashion.

The stunning Make up for the shoot was created by Amanda Reardon and the ever lovable Brad Mullins worked his magic with the models locks for some fun hairstyling.

I was responsible for the prop styling. I loved this brief and had such a fabulous time collecting all of the vintage luggage , making maps, food styling and pulling together a colorful palette of adventurous accessories to accompany the story. Hope you enjoy it….

From the moment I was approached to work on the Australian launch of ‘The Balm’ I felt an incredible synergy between the balm’s personality and the vintage world I have created based on mine. Vintage Allsorts provides me with a business that is fun , nostalgic , feminine, quirky and creative , a world that brings vintage culture to life. The launch event for the balm shared all of those ideas.

The Balm cosmetic brand was created 8 years ago by Marissa Shipman.With so many different make up brands on the market, it’s sometimes hard to distinguish one from the other and what is it that sets them apart.TheBalm hasn’t re-invented the wheel, it’s a simple yet functional make up and skin care range that has fabulous products, great packaging, healthy ingredients and a sense of humour to boot! The event was held at Gardel’s bar and played host to a who’s who of the Sydney beauty , fashion and media industries all enjoying the flirty , fun fifties atmosphere created by the location and added entertainment.

The Hollywood Honeys serenaded the room with their luscious vintage vocals while Make up artists provided fifties style make overs for the guests. A Vintage dress and jewellery display created a brilliant visual to represent the personality of the brand and created the perfect backdrop for the afternoons activities.

I was thrilled to be involved with a range of products and a brand that aligns with so many of my own brand beliefs and inspirations.

Shoot The Chef Competition 2011

In 2011 the wonderful Louise Whelan entered a portrait of me in the SMH Shoot the Chef competition. The image was chosen as one of the finalists , unfortunately we didn’t win but we sure had lots of fun attending all of the Crave Food festival events were we met lots of inspiring chefs and food lovers. It was a fabulous experience and another well deserving moment of recognition for the amazing Louise Whelan one of Australia’s most talented photographers.

Palmer & Co Gig Photos

I have been having the most wonderful time singing at Palmer & Co. It is truly a pleasure to be a little jazz bird in such a decadent and inspiring space.

A few months ago the wonderful Dusk Devi and the amazing Louise Whelan stopped by to check out the space. On separate nights with cameras in hand , here are some of the images they captured.

I play at Palmer & Co every Thursday night from 7-10pm and every second Saturday with my next saturday being the 23rd March.

Be sure to stop by one night soon for a sneaky martini and a listen to some boogie blues, jumpin’ jazz and cocktail swing.

Wintersun Festival 2012

On the June long weekend I was invited to perform at Wintersun. Australia’s oldest running nostalgia festival. It was the first time I had played at the festival since it has moved from it’s original home at Coolangatta. With the Cooly Rocks festival still being held there over the same weekend I was curious to see how different the festival would be and how greatly the change of location would affect the attendance and the general feel of the event.

This year the festival was held in sunny Coffs Harbour and we were actually lucky to have a few lovely days of winter sun before the rain set in. I even found time to take a spin on the dodgem cars a moment that was captured by the brilliant Louise Whelan.

I played the festival as a 4 piece combo with my favourite Lonesome Playboys Eric Rasmussen and Artie Taylor , 7 sets of music over 2 days. That’s a whole lot of songs. We were lucky enough to have two wonderful drummers sit in with us for the gigs. Mick Buckley (Radiators / The Yeeha Boys ) and sensational player Matt Hanson ( Rusty Pinto / Johnny Law )

As I was working for much of my time there I didn’t get to see many of the other bands playing their gigs but it was lovely to catch up with so many interstate musician friends after hours.

Unfortunately Coffs Harbour has a midnight lock out so you can’t get in to any venues after midnight, so one night the catch up was literally chatting on a street corner. The only entertainment available a local kebab shop and a 1am falafel.

It was hard for me to get a feel of the entire event because of my singing commitments but the feedback I got from friends and people I met was that the festival had lost much of it’s appeal.

The beauty of Coolangatta meant that everything was pretty much in walking distance from your accommodation. It was easy to see all the bands that you wanted to see even if they were playing at different venues. In comparison to previous Wintersun festivals I had performed at and been to , this years seemed to have lost it’s energy.

I will be very interested to see which town will play host to next years festival and i’ll cross my fingers that it is somewhere which will excite the masses , encouraging people to come out and support live music and the celebration of vintage culture.

I’m very excited to tell you that I have been singing at Merivales’s fabulous new speakeasy bar Palmer & Co.

Located in the heart of the city , hidden in a narrow alleyway is the place this little torch singer has been dreaming about.

Dimly lit with exposed architecture and brilliant attention to detail, quirky and cultured with a sense of quality often aspired to but not often achieved.

Palmer & Co is the kind of place you can be yourself while dreaming about being a starlet from the silver screen or the character in some urban folklore from the days of prohibition.

This week I’ll be torching jazz standards and some dirty rhythm and blues on both Thursday and Friday nights. From 7-9pm

Stop by and say hello, I’ll be the blonde siren smiling like a Cheshire cat in the warm sepia glow.
