Retrospec’d Photo shoot

I am always so grateful for the girls of Retrospec’d . They have often lent me clothing for print shoots and film work so when they asked me to Art Direct a series of Shoots for their fashion label I was more than happy to help.

I wanted to capture the fresh , fun energy of their clothing. The bright vibrant colours and the dynamic fabrics. An outdoor shoot seemed like the best way to achieve an innocent 50′s look that really showcased their summer collection.

I just love a good picnic , so using this as inspiration The Brilliant photographer Louise Whelan and I headed to the Northern Beaches for a day of printed floral circle skirts and pineapple princesses.
With a collection of Vintage Allsorts Models , A team of talented hair and Make up artists and one of my favourite Assistants Faith Campbell helping to keep it all under control everything was falling perfectly into place,  however we forgot to invite the sunshine.

Being consummate professionals and ambitious lunatics , when the dark clouds loomed instead of postponing the shoot we decided to go full steam ahead. The Models and Team were unaffected by the cool breeze and threatening rain , even managing to smile through the shivers.

There were some hysterical moments such as when the helium balloons escaped from an open car door and the gusty winds took a picnic rug for a ride. We captured some fabulous shots and even managed to get back inside before the downpour.

A pleasure to work with such fun 50′s inspired clothing and quite a novelty for me as I usually always style with original Vintage Items so it was wonderful to have multiple sizes of the same garment. A rare luxury indeed but not as great a luxury as working with the incredible Lou Lou Whelan. Such an amazing photographer and a truly inspirational woman.
